"An opera singer of the south is this robust wren. His loud and melodious 'figaro, figaro, figaro' is one of the joyous sounds of the eastern United States. Once in a while, I was lucky enough to hear one and maybe even see one in my home base of southern Ontario. But the 'Old South' is truly the heartland for this handsome bird. That is why I put one in the setting of hanging 'Spanish moss' (which is, of course, not a moss but a bromeliad related to the pineapple). I picture the setting as a grande allee of live oaks leading to a gracious ante bellum mansion ... a fitting setting for our little opera singer." - Robert Bateman

The Story
In this specially created sericel edition, "Disney's Dungeon of Doom," Disney's sneakiest scoundrels - the Wicked Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Captain Hook from Peter Pan (1953), Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty (1959), Ursula from The Little Mermaid (1989), Scar from The Lion King (1994) and Hades from Hercules (1997) - all creep menacingly forward from the dank doorway of a loathsome dungeon.

The Artwork
This is a limited edition sericel depicting Disney's classic villains. The Walt Disney Studios has created this character image using the fine art screen-printing process of color reproduction known as serigraphy. Disney artists specially created a hand-inked, hand-painted animation cel master which was used in the production of these sericels. A total of 28 colors are used to recreate the color image, each of which has been exactingly screen-printed, one color at a time, onto the acetate cel. This limited edition was produced in 1998 to commemorate The Walt Disney Company's 75th Anniversary.

In picture after picture, the memories of crafty villains, uncaring villains, powerful, cruel, and spiteful villains, stay with us, haunting our minds and our hearts."
